Labour Will Cancel Oxford-Cambridge Expressway

The controversial Oxford-Cambridge Expressway will be cancelled by a Labour Government.  The news was confirmed by David Morgan, Labour candidate for the Buckingham constituency, after the region’s Labour candidates, led by Cambridge’s Daniel Zeichner, secured support for the policy shift from Labour Shadow Secretary of State for Transport Andy McDonald.

Welcoming the news, David Morgan said:

“No ifs, no buts, no ‘reviews’.  A Labour Government would cancel The Expressway.  It is neither needed nor justified.”
“The associated housing development also is neither needed, nor justified.  Cancelling the Expressway will undermine ‘the economics’ of the current proposed 1 million homes.  In addition, a Labour Government would devolve power to local authorities, giving communities more say over planning and other decisions that affect their daily lives.  Our manifesto is committed to ridding ourselves of developer-led housing projects which needlessly cement-over our landscape.  Instead, we need a programme for the affordable housing which Buckingham needs, and which can be done with due regard to environmental impact.”
“Labour: Tough on the Expressway, tough on the causes of the Expressway.”
