What is a CLP?
CLP stands for Constituency Labour Party, a constituency is an area that is represented by a single MP in Westminster.
The Buckingham constituency is currently represented by John Bercow, who currently holds the office of Speaker of the House of Commons & as such isn’t a member of any political party. An unwritten convention dictates that major political parties don’t stand against the speaker, as such we’ve been unable to contest a general election since 2009.
However he is expected to stand down at the close of business of the parliament on the 31st of October 2019, this means we’re beginning to ramp up for a by-election (or possibly a General Election) where we will be able to stand a Labour Party candidate, the selection process is underway & members will be informed of progress.
